Targeted by a controversy for misinformation, the streaming giant Spotify has finally decided to crack down and remove episodes from a controversial podcast on the Covid-19. A decision that comes a few weeks after criticism from music personalities, including folk-rock star Neil Young.
Spotify is taking it to the next level. In the midst of a controversy for a few weeks, the streaming giant has decided to withdraw episodes from the controversial podcast of Joe Rogan, accused of spreading false information on the Covid-19 and which has eleven million plays each day, the podcast the most listened to in the world. The American animator is particularly in the viewfinder of personalities, like the singer Neil Young. Faced with the inaction of the Swedish platform, the folk-rock star had even decided to withdraw all his titles.
70 episodes quietly removed
Last week, Spotify announced a series of measures to combat misinformation. However, this weekend the New York Times found that the streaming giant had discreetly removed no less than 70 episodes of this controversial podcast without communicating on the subject. The Swedish platform did not wish to respond to requests from Agence France-Presse (AFP).
This sorting follows other controversies: in addition to health issues, Joe Rogan is also criticized for his racist remarks. On Saturday, the host apologized in a video posted to Instagram, including his use of the word “nigger” over the past few years on his shows.
