Music streaming company Spotify is finally officially testing a playlist that automatically downloads some of your recent favorite tracks. This test comes a few years after we started working on such a feature.
While Spotify has long allowed its Premium subscribers to download up to 10,000 songs, playlists and podcasts to five different devices, it doesn’t offer the option to automatically download songs you listen to frequently, like smart downloads on YouTube Music, which have been around since mid-2019. However, Spotify may launch its own iteration of the feature soon, according to company CEO Daniel Ek.
The latter shared a screenshot of the potential Your Offline Mix interface on Twitter. The description of the playlist in the screenshot reads: ” A mix of your recently listened to songs for when the vibe is good but your connection is weak “. The screenshot also indicates that the duration of the playlist is approximately three and a half hoursbut it is not certain that this is the standard length of the playlist.

Spotify will automatically download your recent music
The arrival of such a feature could please many platform users, especially those who are used to traveling in regions where it is difficult to have an Internet connection.
As a reminder, the Smart downloads function of YouTube Music lets listeners automatically download up to 500 songs for offline listening, but we don’t really know if Spotify’s will be as good. Obviously, we imagine that an option will be present to download your recent songs only once connected to Wi-Fi, so as not to drop your data envelope.
Ek’s tweet didn’t give more information about this feature or what percentage of Spotify users can expect to see it in their app in the near future. He also did not specify when this feature should be rolled out more widely. As usual, this new feature should remain exclusive for Premium subscribers, with free subscribers only able to download podcasts.
