Monday, May 9, viewers of France 2 were able to (re)discover an episode of It starts today, dedicated to adopted children. Faustine Bollaert received several people who wanted to share their story on the set. Among them were Bernadette and Jean-Claude, a 53-year-old couple who discovered a common experience more than forty years ago. Both discovered within a week of each other that they had been adopted.
In front of the host and the other guests, Jean-Claude remembered the day he learned the astonishing news. It was at the turn of a family conflict that did not concern him that the truth broke out: “We had received our nephew Alain with my mum. He had been abandoned by my eldest sister, who had left the house and who had come to claim him. She told him that she could recover her son without problem, provided that “She got a stable situation. She slammed the door and never came back”he said.
A common story between Bernadette and Jean-Claude
A few moments later, Jean-Claude remembered having deplored the situation, saying that his sister’s discomfort was perhaps due to the absence of the child’s biological father. This reflection had probably annoyed his mother who had started to raise her voice: “Subconsciously, I asked her if we were adopted, and she was like ‘how do you know that?'”he continued.
Jean-Claude said he was relieved by this revelation which had confirmed many feelings that occurred in adolescence. At his side, his wife Bernadette also told his story. If she had a very happy childhood with her adoptive parents, adolescence was also the moment of the first questions: “I had a really conflicted relationship with my mother. At one point I felt like she wasn’t my real mother so I was wondering a lot“she recalled.
