The star player from Swiss group opponents Brazil was injured in the opening game of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Brazil superstar Neymar suffered a sprained right ankle in the opening match of the 2022 World Cup against Serbia (2-0). The Seleçao, who meet Switzerland in Qatar on Monday, could still pay dearly for the start win.
“There was direct contact with the Serbian player’s knee,” said team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar late Thursday evening after the game. “We started the treatment straight away, starting with physiotherapy on the bench. We have to wait 24 to 48 hours to be able to give a more accurate diagnosis.”
Coach Tite is confident
Neymar, striker from Paris Saint-Germain, was substituted after a foul by Nikola Milenkovic in the closing stages, and he cried as he cooled his visibly swollen ankle with ice. He later hobbled through the mixed zone.
National coach Tite was nevertheless “confident that Neymar can continue playing the World Cup”. Before further examination, the swelling of the ankle must be awaited. On Monday from 5 p.m. there will be a duel with the Swiss national team.
