The beginning of spring is the time of new beginnings. How do we get our apartment or house ready for the new season?

Spring is the time for new beginnings and therefore also the ideal time to thoroughly muck out and clean the apartment. March 20th is the official start of spring this year – around this date, dust, dirt and co. should be on the collar in your own four walls. But where is the best place to start? And which corners should you definitely have on screen? An overview.

Start with decluttering

When doing spring cleaning, it helps to be systematic. The best way to start is to clear out all the rooms. Whether clothes, cosmetics or food in the fridge: clearing out creates space and makes the living space look tidier. When mucking out drawers, it’s best to have a few garbage bags ready. Clothes, books and other items in good condition can be sold or given away.

Work according to the system

You should also work according to a system when cleaning yourself. A cleaning plan helps: It is important not to overwhelm yourself and to set realistic goals. It is best to start by cleaning the windows in all rooms and washing the curtains.

Then it’s time to dust: Wipe all surfaces and shelves (door frames, bookshelves, indoor plants, radiators, monitors, lampshades, etc.) with a damp duster.

Finally, it is the turn of the floor in all rooms: vacuum everything with a vacuum cleaner. Take carpets to the cleaners or clean them with a special carpet cleaner. Then wipe the floor throughout the apartment.

This is how the kitchen gets clean

Kitchen and bathroom usually require more attention than other rooms. In the kitchen, you should first remove all objects from the work surfaces and wipe them down with a suitable cleaning agent. Then wipe the inside of the cabinets with a damp cloth.

Then thoroughly clean the inside of the mucked-out refrigerator. To do this, switch off the electricity, remove all shelves and compartments, wash them with hot water and dry them. Then thoroughly clean the drain channel on the rear wall – preferably with a cotton swab.

Then it’s time for the oven: if you don’t want to use chemical cleaners, you should try shaving cream. Apply the foam to the stubborn stains in the oven and leave to work. Then remove with a damp cloth. Vinegar and baking powder are also ideal cleaning agents for the oven. Baking trays and grids should be removed and cleaned separately.

So the bathroom shines again

In the bathroom, first remove all items such as shampoos, towels, toothbrushes or soap dishes. Then clean the shower, bathtub and sink thoroughly with detergent or a solution of vinegar and water. Then rinse well. If the water is no longer draining properly, also clean the drain thoroughly. Clean the mirror with glass cleaner and polish dry with a clean cloth.

Thoroughly clean the toilet, including the toilet seat and interior. Spring cleaning is also an ideal opportunity to replace the toilet brush again!

Spring cleaning in the living room and bedroom

Beat out all the pillows in the living room and bedroom. Remove pillowcases, blankets and bed linen and put them in the washing machine! Air the inner lining of duvets and pillows.

Vacuum the upholstered furniture and sofas and clean them with upholstery cleaners if necessary. Clean the mattress and remove dust from the slatted frame.
