Spring Equinox: What is it?

As for many years, spring begins on March 20, and not March 21 as in the collective imagination.

The first day of this season is linked to the vernal equinox, the time of year when the length of day and night are exactly the same.

This is due to complete alignment of the sun with the Earth’s equator. A phenomenon which, until the summer solstice, will allow the northern hemisphere to gain minutes of sunshine each day.

This equinox is biannual. Indeed, it occurs in March for the arrival of buds and flowering trees but also in September, for the beginning of autumn.

According to scientists, spring should continue to start on March 20 until 2044, and then on March 19 until 2102.
