Squid Game makes a surprise announcement, it will divide

Squid Game obviously has a big surprise in store for fans, and it doesn’t concern season 2. One thing is certain, we probably would never have bet on that.

Squid Game is one of Netflix’s biggest hits. With a simple but effective concept, the series managed to attract millions of viewers. The latter were able to witness an end of season 2 which clearly foreshadowed a sequel. It is planned for 2024, and we even got a first teaser. However, while we impatiently await the sequel, we have been told information of the utmost importance. It caused general surprise, and we understand why.

A Squid Game remake is reportedly in the works

This news comes to us directly from the Première site which made a rather astonishing statement: “ David Fincher is quietly working on Squid Game », Explains reporter Jeff Sneider. Obviously, Netflix wants to put together an American version of the series, with the legendary director at the helm. The latter would have ended up accepting. So yes, a remake of a show that isn’t even three years old can seem a little strange. Unfortunately, it’s far from impossible, especially when we see the success of season 1.

In truth, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of this rumor. It had already appeared in October 2023. Production Weekly then spoke to us about a “ American remake of Squid Game “. The name of David Fincher was also mentioned, which reinforces the journalist’s comments. Afterwards, nothing says that he will necessarily be behind the camera. He could be a producer, for example. In itself, anything is possible, since there has been no official confirmation. That said, it raises a lot of questions, starting with the usefulness of such a project.

Moreover, some people do not believe in David Fincher’s involvement in this new version of Squid Game. However, we must not forget that he has already collaborated with Netflix on various programs. We find in particular the series House of Cards or Mindhunter, but also his last two films, Mank and The Killer. As for the remake itself, know that La Casa de Papel has already received this treatment with its Korean equivalent, Money Heist: Korea.
