South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae, known from “Squid Game”, becomes an uncompromising killer in a new series.

The whole world knows him from the Netflix series “Squid Game”. In the bitter satire about deadly games, the South Korean Lee Jung-jae (49) embodied the worn-out main character Gi-hun – and will also be part of the second season, which has already been confirmed by Netflix. The industry magazine “Variety” is now reporting another upcoming series project by Lee: The star will once again play the iconic killer Ray from the 2020 South Korean hit film Deliver Us From Evil.

“Deliver Us From Evil”: Prehistory is told in a new series

In the action hit, which attracted more than 4 million viewers to the cinema halls in South Korea, Lee played the tattooed gangster who is hunting his brother’s murderer. Although the film was released at the beginning of the corona pandemic – in a short break between lockdowns – it became a huge hit with audiences in South Korea.

The new, yet untitled spin-off series is scheduled to start production next year and will tell the backstory of Lee’s character. According to Variety, it will be about how Ray became such a cruel killer. The uncompromising gangster will therefore take on other villains from all over the world. With filmmaker Hong Won Chan (43), the director of “Deliver Us From Evil” is also involved in the project. It is not yet clear on which streaming service the show will appear.

Meanwhile, “Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae is enjoying success with his latest work “Hunt” in his home country of South Korea. In addition to starring in the spy film, Lee also served as director and producer. “Hunt” has already attracted more than 3.3 million viewers to cinemas in South Korea.
