SRS-XG300, SRS-XE300 and SRS-XE200: Sony’s new trio of portable summer speakers

3

Feeling summer approaching, Sony has just drawn three new Bluetooth speakers, the SRS-XG300, SRS-XE300 and SRS-XE200, to allow you to play around the pool or at the beach.

Last summer, Sony launched three XXL festive speakers to liven up wild parties and improvised karaoke. The Japanese firm is back again this year with Bluetooth speakers that are certainly more modest in size, but quite capable of punctuating your summer evenings until the end of the night. Here are the SRS-XG300, SRS-XE300 and SRS-XE200 (still a nightmare product names at Sony).

In order of size comes first the SRS-XG300, little sister of the SRS-XG500 released a year earlier. It indeed takes a design similar to the latter with slightly flared ends. The SRS-XG300, however, swaps the fixed handle of the SRS-XG500 for a more discreet retractable handle, but just as practical. Sony also boasts the robustness of its enclosure marked in particular by its IP67 certification demonstrating increased resistance to dust, sand and immersion in water.

By way of acoustic architecture, the SRS-XG300 is equipped with a set of tweeters, X-Balanced speakers (the same used in the excellent SRS-XB33 and 43) and passive radiators promising “clear highs” as well as “punchy bass” all in “limiting distortion”. A function called Mega Bass, also present on the SRS-XG500, would recreate the sound atmosphere of a club, especially with the light effects activated. Another, called Live Sound, would extend the soundstage to better immerse listeners and recreate “the concert experience”.

The SRS-XG300 promises 25 hours of battery life and is of course compatible with the Party Box protocol which allows up to 100 speakers to be connected together. It also includes a microphone to be able to answer calls or communicate with your favorite assistant directly through the speaker. The SRS-XG300 will be marketed in July 2022 at a price of €300.

The other two new speakers presented by Sony are a little more modest in size than the SRS-XG300. They differ from the latter in particular by their more angular design combining mesh fabric and silicone coating. However, they remain just as robust, if not more so, because Sony claims that the coating of these two speakers would be particularly resistant to knocks, shocks and scratches. The IP67 certification and the waterproof aspect of the speakers remain, that goes without saying.

The SRS-XE300 and SRS-XE200 also differ from the SRS-XG300 by the integration of a technology called “Line-Shape Diffuser” which should allow a more homogeneous distribution of sound all around the speaker, but also longer distance. The acoustic system remains quite similar, mixing tweeters, X-Balanced speakers and passive radiators. The two speakers are also equipped with a microphone and can be paired in pairs for stereo rendering or with a network of speakers compatible with the Party Box protocol.

Regarding autonomy, the SRS-XE300 promises 24 hours while the SRS-XE200 expects 16 hours. The two speakers will be launched in July 2022 at respective prices of €200 and €150.
