Failing front runner gives HSV hope

Two games on this second division Saturday have to be postponed due to Corona. But the remaining two games are tough: At St. Pauli you ask yourself what you messed up in the first half of the season. The table leader Bochum, on the other hand, cannot take advantage of the other HSV stumbling block.

Erzgebirge Aue – FC St. Pauli 1: 3 (0: 1)

FC St. Pauli has again demonstrated its away strength in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Timo Schultz’s team won 3-1 (1-0) at Erzgebirge Aue. Hamburg, who have been unbeaten away since the beginning of January, consolidated eighth place with 41 points, Aue is in the middle of the table with 37 points.

St. Pauli made a lightning start with double goalscorer Luca Zander (1st / 56th), Rodrigo Zalazar also scored (49th). Pascal Testroet scored the goal for Aue (73.). Right at the start, Zalazar took a free kick into the penalty area, where Zander headed the ball into the goal from close range behind the Auer defense. Then St. Pauli had the game under control and pushed for the next goal. Coach Dirk Schuster’s team also looked for their chances, but the Saxons did not come through.

After the half-time break, St. Pauli added thanks to Zalazar, who came to the end of the penalty area. Zander scored again from a free kick. Afterwards, the guests initially only allowed a little, but Testroet used his chance effectively.

SC Paderborn – VfL Bochum 3: 0 (2: 0)

VfL Bochum did not use Hamburger SV’s template in the promotion race. After the bankruptcy of HSV at the start of the 28th matchday (1: 2 against Darmstadt), the leaders of the table at SC Paderborn were also defeated 0: 3 (0: 2). Nevertheless, VfL still has the best chance of promotion with a four point lead over the pursuers.

Julian Justvan (36th), Sven Michel (39th) and Christopher Antwi-Adjei (73rd) scored for Paderborn. With their well-deserved success, the Ostwestfalen were unimpressed by the decision of their coach Steffen Baumgart not to extend the expiring contract at the end of the season.

The hosts were brave against the favorites from the start. Justvan had his first chance to take the lead with his low shot on the post (16th). Bochum had a hard time, there was a lack of penetration in the game forward. Thomas Eisfeld missed the only good opportunity before the break (23rd). Paderborn had more pull to the goal and was rewarded with a double strike. Justvan scored in the margin, Michel completed a counterattack well worth seeing as ice cold.

The guests increased the pressure in the second half and put the Paderborn on the defensive. VfL still found it difficult to create clear opportunities. Simon Zoller also forgave miserably from the best position (69th). Antwi-Adjei made the decision after a counterattack.
