Economy: Stadler Rail is awarded a contract for up to 504 trains
tsf. Stadler Rail has been awarded the contract for the largest order in the company’s history with a total volume of up to four billion euros: six transport companies from Germany and Austria had jointly put out to tender for up to 504 vehicles internationally as part of the “VDV-Tram-Train”. In addition to vehicle manufacture, the framework agreement also includes a maintenance contract for up to 32 years. Part of the framework agreement is a fixed order quantity of 246 Citylink vehicles with a volume of around 1.7 billion euros, as Stadler announced on Monday. It is also possible to order up to 258 additional vehicles. The award marks the start of a long-term partnership between the project consortium, consisting of the Karlsruhe transport company (VBK), the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG), the Saarbahn network, the Upper Austrian rail network, the state of Salzburg and the Neckar-Alb Regional Stadtbahn special-purpose association Stadler.
Over the next ten years, Stadler will produce 246 Citylink vehicles for the six operators. The first four vehicles will be delivered to Saarbahn in 2024.
