STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl is changing its name, it’s obviously political

Like many people living in Ukraine, GSC Games is particularly affected by the war that has been ravaging the country for several weeks, since Russian troops crossed the border. The studio reacted quickly to this attack and then decided to pause development of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl.

According to the journalist Pavel Dobrovskythe studio would have moved to the Czech Republic, to Prague, to complete the development of the game. But, just as discreetly, GSC Games changed the name of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl to Steamwhich is now called STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. This is obviously not trivial, as recalled gaming pc, this is the pronunciation of the city in Ukrainian, the previous one having been established by Russian speakers. The studio wants to remind that Ukraine is very independent, with its own language and its own culture. The same goes for Kyiv, the capital of the country, which is the correct local spelling, Kyiv being again a Russian name.

A simple letter that changes a lot of things for Ukrainians, but that will not disrupt the game, unlike the raging war. Officially, the development of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is still on hiatus, but you can still pre-order the game at €59.99 per Fnacalthough the release date set for December 8, 2022 should be pushed back.
