Happy father of a little boy aged two and a half, choreographer Kamel Ouali recently launched a cabaret for children, a new project of which he is particularly proud and which his son has already attended. On this occasion, this young dad tells us the funny little story behind his son’s first name, Rock.
Since he made his comeback for nostalgia week at the Star Academy, Kamel Ouali already has in mind which candidate will be the next winner of this new edition. Although he has not been part of our audiovisual landscape for several years (he was also a judge on the show France has an unbelievable talent from 2015 to 2017), the choreographer and director has not stopped his career! While he is at the head of a new journal in 2019, The Bird of Paradisewith Iris Mittenaere as magazine leader, his new role as dad allowed him to open up to other horizons.
It was in 2021 that Kamel Ouali welcomed his first child, a new vocation that he discovered little by little while remaining a big child. The choreographer confides in the columns of Magicmaman: “I’m a dad who laughs. When he’s eating and puts yogurt on his nose, I’m the type to put it on my face too so we can laugh together.» Tender confidences for this dad who also confides that this recent fatherhood has opened new doors for him, that of children’s shows.

Kamel Ouali’s children’s show inspired by his son
The choreographer says that the idea came to him while looking for offers for shows for his son: “I realized that the offer was not huge. I then said to myself “why not create a cabaret for children?» And here is how the idea became concrete, after reaching an agreement with the producer of Paradis Latin, Kamel Ouali launched the machine: “With my assistants, we had a lot of fun putting this project together, we all have a child’s soul otherwise we wouldn’t be artists. (…) I wanted to introduce them to Édith Piaf as much as I wanted to captivate them with songs and registers that they love, like superheroes or Disney. I want to introduce my son to Rock as quickly as possible to shows, exhibitions…»
A little boy of two and a half years old named Rock who has already gone to see his father’s show: “I took him to see My First Cabaret when he was two years old, and he lasted the whole show. (…) It’s a chance for him to access culture at a very young age, this was not the case for me“. An original first name of which this very proud dad tells the little story: “Basically, Rock was not at all the first name he should have. I had several names in mind, including Marcel, but I always told myself that I would choose his first name when I saw his face.» He begins before continuing on the reasons which pushed him to choose this first name: “And I finally chose Rock, not because of the music, but because I already saw it as solid as a rock. And this name suits him very well“.
