Star Trek: A “Star Trek II” reference almost solved a logic hole in “Star Trek Beyond”!

STAR TREK 4: ALL THE CAST, PLOT AND THE THEATER RELEASE DETAILS OF THE NEW CHRIS PINE MOVIE

In “Star Trek Beyond” many fans ask themselves where Carol Marcus is. A planned “Star Trek II” reference should have prevented this continuity error.

  • In “Star Trek Into Darkness”, Carol Marcus joins the Enterprise crew. However, there is no trace of her in “Star Trek Beyond”.
  • However, as screenwriter and star Simon Pegg reveals, her absence should be justified.
  • The Genesis project was supposed to be the reason, which would have been an allusion to “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”.

“Star Trek 4” will start in German cinemas in winter 2023 with Chris Pine, Karl Urban and Zachary Quinto. The film is a sequel to JJ Abrams’ “Star Trek” and “Star Trek Into Darkness” and Justin Lin’s “Star Trek Beyond.” But do you remember Carol Marcus (Alice Eve)?

The role was introduced in ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ and joined the crew of the Enterprise at the end of the film. In “Star Trek Beyond” there was suddenly no trace of her. Her absence wasn’t even mentioned or discussed, but according to co-writer and Scotty actor Simon Pegg, that should have been different.

As US magazine Screen Rant reports, a short line should explain why Carol Marcus is no longer on board the Enterprise. So she should have left the Enterprise to work on the Genesis project. “Star Trek” fans should pay attention because it is a reference to “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”.

Also starring in the 1982 film was Carol Marcus, played by Bibi Besch, leading the Genesis Project as scientific director, which sought to make inanimate planets habitable. In the film, however, Khan (Ricardo Montalbán) gets in the way of the project.

The Kelvin timeline

The old “Star Trek” movies with William Shatner and Co. are set in the Prime timeline. The adventures with Chris Pine, on the other hand, take place in a parallel timeline, the Kelvin timeline.

However, Khan, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, was arrested in “Star Trek Into Darkness” before the Genesis project. So the “Project Genesis” allusion in “Star Trek Beyond” would not only have been a nice Easter egg, it would also have raised the exciting question of what could have become of the project in the Kelvin timeline.

Whether Carol Marcus will return in “Star Trek 4” is still unclear, but very unlikely. Until the cinema release at the end of 2023 you can pass the time with other “Star Trek” new releases. Which “Star Trek” series starts next? “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” awaits us in Germany this year!
