Will Star Trek fans ever experience a new film in theaters again? There is no shortage of new series, Paramount+ takes its role as the streaming home of the “Trek” universe very seriously and continually delivers new releases, but all of the films announced in recent years have never been realized.

Both Quentin Tarantino and “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley developed “Star Trek” projects that are now on hold and a sequel to the last “Star Trek” trilogy is still officially planned, but has been looking for one for quite some time Director. Can “Andor” director Toby Haynes finally end the “Star Trek” drought?

As Entertainment Weekly reports, Haynes will adapt a screenplay by Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith. It is a prequel to JJ Abrams’ 2009 “Star Trek” that is set several decades before Kirk’s time in Starfleet.

This means that the as-yet-untitled “Star Trek” film is likely to take place even before Captain Pike and shed light on an era that we have never seen on the big screen. The film also takes place in the Kelvin timeline and is therefore separate from the “Star Trek” productions on Paramount+.

The fact that Paramount has already given the project the green light and a director has been chosen with a finished script actually gives hope that production will start soon. There could still be problems with the casting alone, so let’s hope for the best!
