Warning, spoilers follow for the finale of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Season 1. If you want to see the episode beforehand, we have a trick you can use to see “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” in Germany right now!

  • The finale of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” presents a “what if” scenario of the famous episode “Spock Under Suspicion”.
  • We are shown why Captain Kirk’s more thoughtless and forward-thinking manner is so important.
  • Kirk is often criticized for being combative compared to Pike or Picard. Now his weakness becomes his strength.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds introduced Paul Wesley as the new Captain James T. Kirk. The character was played by William Shatner in “Starship Enterprise” and is considered a great legend among the “Star Trek” captains. However, there has always been one point where fans often voice criticism.

Compared to thoughtful, reflected and philosophical captains like Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), Captain Archer (Scott Bakula) or Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Kirk is often seen as a brawler and combative macho – to exaggerate a little here.

Especially in the “Starship Enterprise” episode “Spock under suspicion” it can be seen that Kirk doesn’t think twice about the Romulans, but immediately pursues them and fires on the spaceship. In the end, Kirk offers a name as a prisoner, but before he asks, he prefers to shoot first.

In the Season 1 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, this same episode is shown again, but this time it’s in an alternate timeline where Captain Pike is in command of the Enterprise, rather than Captain Kirk.

It quickly becomes clear that Pike’s peaceful approach is doomed to failure and will end up causing even more harm. The episode shows that Kirk was exactly the right man at the right time and that his forward-thrusting nature is just as laudable as other approaches.

The episode proves that Captain Kirk’s supposed weakness can just as easily be a strength. This kind of “Star Trek”, not just examining things, properties or opinions from one side, but presenting them in different lights, hits the nerve of the fans. Strange New Worlds, in particular, has been highly praised for returning to these types of stories.

While “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” will not start in Germany until December 2022, when the Paramount+ streaming service expands to Germany, the shooting of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Season 2 has already been completed. More Star Trek releases are coming soon.
