The poison of the emerald necklace

At the beginning of the fourth episode, Moll (Eve Harlow) and L’ak (Elias Toufexis) turn to a criminal to get another piece of the treasure map. He wants to set the two up, but is poisoned in return. Moll and L’ak use a poison that the Emerald Necklace often used.

The Emerald Chain is the crime syndicate that was the main villain in “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 3. The syndicate, led by the Orion Osyraa (Janet Kidder), was so large that it posed a threat to the Federation. It was broken up at the end of the third season.

Crew is too emotional and personal with each other

In episode 4, “The Time Spider,” Michael (Sonequa Martin-Green) confers with Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie) in the ready room. There, Rayner mentions that Michael’s crew is too emotional and familiar for him. This could be seen as a nod to fans who often criticize that “Star Trek: Discovery” often drifts towards a soap opera, as all the characters are very emotional.
