  • We are overtaken by a flood of new “Star Trek” releases and now the next idea is already being presented to us.
  • Star Trek: Discovery and Picard director and writer Akiva Goldsman wants to bring back all sorts of fan favorites.
  • He gives his idea the title “Tales of the Federation”. It is an anthology series.

Fans of the “Star Trek” universe are currently looking forward to “Star Trek: Discovery” season 4, after all, the new episode will be released in Germany on February 11, 2022. But “Star Trek: Picard” is already in the starting blocks for a return with season 2. And that’s not all!

Akiva Goldsman, who is the director and screenwriter of both series and the new series “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, presented a new idea: “Star Trek: Tales of the Federation“. And this series could serve as a vehicle to bring back every — yes, you read that right — every fan favorite imaginable.

He sees the idea of his new “Star Trek” series as an anthology series, with each episode revolving around a different character. We know such series formats, for example, from the Amazon Prime series “Modern Love” or the Marvel series “What If…?”.

I call it ‘Tales of the Federation’ [Erzählungen der Föderation], where one makes unique stories, yes? So we could George Takei [Sulu aus ‘Raumschiff Enterprise’] bring back for an hour and thus make a show about Sulu as an old man or Jonathan Archer [Hauptfigur aus ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’] found retired after his time on the Enterprise on Earth, [wir könnten] just these particular really interesting [Figuren zurückbringen].

Star Trek director and writer Akiva Goldsman

Goldsman, who won an Oscar in 2002 for his screenplay for “A Beautiful Mind,” goes on to say in an interview with US SFX Magazine that you could take any character from any series. It is difficult to create a separate series for each fan favorite.

The anthology format would still give many characters a chance to return. You wouldn’t have to inflate stories unnecessarily and you could even give several episodes to some “Star Trek” characters if there was fan interest.

There has been no official confirmation or comment on Goldsman’s idea from Paramount+ or any other official source. However, since the creative head is deeply involved in the “Star Trek” production and mastermind Alex Kurtzman is not only on “Star Trek: Discovery”, but also on almost every “Star Trek” project, his idea will certainly find an open ear .

This would be an exciting experience for fans, because, for example, Captain Sisko’s story in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” left more questions unanswered than answers at the end of the story.

Other characters who have since faded from the stories, such as Captain Lorca (Jason Isaacs) or Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), who was actually promised his own series with “Star Trek: Section 31”, could return. William Shatner could also return as Captain Kirk. Something the actor has wanted for years but never got the chance to.

It remains to be seen whether we can look forward to “Star Trek: Tales of the Federation” soon. First of all, fans can look forward to a packed 2022 calendar, as one “Star Trek” series starts after the other. We list you all “Star Trek” reboots 2022!
