In “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3 there is a reunion of the stars from “Spaceship Enterprise – The Next Century” (TNG), which is now known. Gradually there is now information from “Star Trek: Picard” showrunner Terry Matalas, who talks about the hurdles to bringing back the iconic roles.
We’ve reported that the TNG stars have some say in Star Trek: Picard. Now, on the Inglourious Treksperts podcast, Matalas reveals that Gates McFadden’s return as Dr. Beverly Crusher, mother of Wesley Crusher, presented a special challenge.
With Gates, I wanted to make sure Crusher got a very strong story. She was a fascinating – she is a fascinating role, taking her son out into the far reaches of the universe who had a romantic relationship with Captain Picard. And where are they now?

In fact, the love story between Picard and Crusher that never took off will become a major theme. Star Trek: Picard season 2 was all about Picard’s (Patrick Stewart) emotionally reserved nature and his fears of commitment.
