The time travel plot of “Star Trek: Picard” season 2 was previously told in a similar form in a forgotten “Star Trek” story starring Geordi and Riker.
- The storyline of “Star Trek: Picard” season 2 shows a surprising number of parallels to “Star Trek: The Experience”.
- The “Star Trek” experience was a kind of “Star Trek” amusement park in Las Vegas and the story was an interactive fan event.
- To get revenge, the Klingons travel to the 21st century and steal one of Picard’s ancestors from the timeline so that Picard will never be born.
Star Trek: Picard Season 2 is about to come to an end. It’s been a forgiving season so far, keeping fans of the “Star Trek” universe happy with plenty of nostalgia. So rogue Q (John de Lancie) was brought back and the time travel story is also familiar to fans. The film “Star Trek IV: Back to the Present” is particularly famous.
But “Star Trek: Picard” also uses elements of old “Star Trek” series that showed time travel stories. What many fans don’t know, however, is that the story about an ancestor of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) comes directly from “Star Trek: The Experience”.
It’s an interactive experience for fans, like a Star Trek-themed amusement park in Las Vegas. From 1998 to 2008, fans of the “Star Trek” universe could immerse themselves in the endless expanses and become part of an exciting “Star Trek” story.
In order to bring the fans into the story, extra scenes were even filmed with the stars from “Starship Enterprise – The Next Century”. Though the storyline has since been forgotten, some observant Star Trek fans have noticed how similar the storyline is to Star Trek: Picard Season 2.
The Klingons want revenge! To harm Starfleet and Jean-Luc, they travel to the 21st century to erase an ancestor of Jean-Luc from the timeline so that Jean-Luc is never born. Now it’s up to the visitors of the “Star Trek” experience to save Jean-Luc’s ancestor and repair the timeline again.
In the series it’s not the Klingons, it’s Q instead. Q doesn’t seem to be taking revenge, however, but rather wanting to help. The ancestor is introduced in “Star Trek: Picard” by name as Renée Picard (Penelope Mitchell). Unlike the plot of “Star Trek: The Experience”, however, the primary goal is to stop them from going into space.
So Jean-Luc should not be prevented from being born. Still, the resemblance is striking and one wonders if this is intentional. With more than 50 years of “Star Trek” such parallels can of course also be coincidence, especially since “Star Trek: The Experience” was only granted to visitors in Las Vegas and many fans do not know the story at all.
On May 6, 2022, the finale of “Star Trek: Picard” Season 2 will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video. In the USA, it then continues directly with “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”. It is still unclear whether the new series will start in parallel in Germany. We list you all “Star Trek” new releases!
