Sci-fi highlight Star Trek: Strange New Worlds introduces numerous new characters, including La’An Noonien Singh, portrayed by Christina Chong. In the third episode, it is then officially confirmed that La’An is a descendant of the most famous “Star Trek” villain, Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalbán).

La’An reveals that she was teased at school. Dubbed the “Augment,” she has always wanted to clearly distance herself from her tyrannical ancestor. Hence a great aversion to genetic manipulation and injections.

A video now explains how La’An and Khan are related in the “Star Trek” universe. We are told Khan’s story.

Khan first appears in “Starship Enterprise” as a villain fighting Captain Kirk (William Shatner). We learn that he is an Augment, a genetically enhanced human. He was experimented on to have “super powers”. He uses this to finally subdue large parts of the earth in the late 20th century.

But his tyrannical rule comes to an end as more Augments emerge and fight each other. The Eugenics War breaks out. In the confusion, the chance is taken to overthrow Khan and the Augments, causing them to flee and leave planet Earth.

In 1996, on board the SS Botany Bay, Khan was put into stasis with 84 other Augments and shot into space. In a kind of hibernation, they survive for hundreds of years before being found by Kirk and his crew in 2267.

We’ll find out in the upcoming episodes whether Khan’s story will play an even bigger role in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”. We’ll tell you how you can always watch “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” in Germany parallel to the US start in the stream.
