Star Trek Strange New Worlds: Samuel Kirk Makes a Connection to ‘Star Trek’ Starring Chris Pine!

STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” introduces Samuel Kirk, Jim Kirk’s brother. A bridge is made to JJ Abrams’ “Star Trek” with Chris Pine.

The new sci-fi series hasn’t started in Germany yet, but with a trick you can still see “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” now!

  • James T. Kirk’s brother, Samuel Kirk, is a rather unknown slate, but now he’s been given a distinctive trait!
  • In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Sam describes himself as “conflict averse,” something he also is in a deleted story arc from Star Trek (2009).
  • The “Star Trek” movie starring Chris Pine is set in a different timeline, in a different universe, but the parallel is interesting nonetheless.

Many characters have appeared in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” that have been known in the “Star Trek” universe since the 1960s. Samuel Kirk is no exception. James T. Kirk’s older brother is portrayed by Dan Jeannotte in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Sam Kirk made his first appearance in “Spaceship Enterprise”, but when we see him there he is already dead. William Shatner, who also plays Jim Kirk, was taken for the small extra role. To distinguish the two Kirks, Sam has acquired a mustache. Dan Jeannotte is now rocking this too.

Since James Kirk’s older brother hasn’t appeared since, the character is more of a legend than a character with a lot of personality, and Strange New Worlds is about to change that. Although Sam Kirk only has a brief appearance in the sixth episode of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, it says a lot about Sam’s personality.

He sees Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) having lunch and comments on the fact that she is currently serving in the security department under La’An (Christina Chong). He jokes that Uhura should make it clear to La’An that she’s getting an hour off. Apparently, La’An has tendencies to mess up the break with work.

As Sam chats with Uhura, La’An walks in and asks Sam why he wouldn’t tell her himself, to which Sam explains that he is “conflict averse”. An important character trait that sets him apart from his brother James.

However, this character trait was not first introduced in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. In an original version of “Star Trek (2009)” with Chris Pine, the childhood of the two Kirks should be addressed. Since the new “Star Trek” films take place in a parallel timeline, the Kelvin timeline, the Kirks grow up with a stepfather.

This makes life difficult for the two of them, so in the cut story arc, Sam decides to run away and leave young Jim behind, who ends up having to deal with his stepfather alone. What the relationship between the two will be like in “Star Trek 4” is unclear.

But here, too, Sam Kirk is characterized by one thing: he avoids conflict and runs away from confrontations, while James hot-headedly rushes into battle.

Since James and Sam still have their biological father in the Prime timeline that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the other series take place in, this landmark event will not matter. Still, it’s nice to see that some character traits persist across different universes.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 will star Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk. Fans, of course, are hoping to see the Kirk brothers’ first interaction. So far, the two have not been seen together. All we know is that the Kirks are close in the Prime timeline.
