Did you know that in “Star Trek” the USS Enterprise has its own yacht for the captain? This is an extra that is rarely used.
- In “Star Trek: Lower Decks” she is back, the captain’s yacht.
- Trekkies already know the big shuttle from “Star Trek: Insurrection.”
- However, the slightly more comfortable shuttle is rarely used.
The “Captain’s Yacht” – this name for a large shuttle is really something. The execution is rather disappointing, as the vehicle from the “Star Trek” universe is actually just a larger shuttle with warp nacelles. Unfortunately, there are no luxurious extras such as a champagne bar.
The captain’s yacht was first introduced in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and was subsequently used in “Star Trek: Insurrection” as Picard (Patrick Stewart), Data (Brent Spiner), Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) and Worf (Michael Dorn) use the vehicle to get to a planet unnoticed.
Due to the size of the captain’s yacht, it docks below the saucer section. When docked, the warp nacelles are raised, but when the yacht is undocked, they lower so that the shuttle can fly off. Above you can see in the first picture how the gondolas are still up, in the third picture they are down.
When docked, the yacht forms a closed shape with the mother ship, so that at first glance it is not noticeable that there is another, small spaceship in the same place.
The USS Enterprise-E yacht we see in Star Trek: Insurrection is named Cousteau. Each Starfleet starship of the Galaxy, California and Sovereign classes is equipped with a captain’s yacht. In Star Trek: Lower Decks, in the fourth season finale, we see Captain Freeman using the USS Cerritos yacht.
Compared to other shuttles, the captain’s yachts have higher ceilings, making it possible to stand at the control consoles. There is a cargo transporter located in the cargo hold, which in turn is located in the stern compartment of the yacht.
In the rear area of the yacht there is a central access that can be used through a cargo hatch when docked. The captain’s yacht is designed for a maximum of five people.
It is not yet known when we will next see the captain’s yacht in action. Whether the ship existed on board Pikes Enterprise in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” over a hundred years before “Star Trek: Picard” has not yet been discussed. We list all new “Star Trek” releases for you!
