  • In the new series “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” the Gorn are the main villains.
  • However, they are hardly new. The reptilian aliens have a long tradition in the “Star Trek” franchise.
  • We’ll summarize every appearance of the villainous greenies and tell you everything we know about the Gorn!

The Gorn made their first appearance in January 1967 in the first season of Star Trek. Since then, the Gorn have appeared in a total of four “Star Trek” series. Although the species has been known for over 55 years, there is hardly any information and it is only through SNW that we learn more and more about the Gorn hegemony.

While the Gorn are known today as frightening aliens, in the 60s they were still iconic and quaint, with a stuntman being put in a green rubber suit. From the victim of many parodies to probably the most dangerous opponent in Starfleet. We have summarized all the appearances and facts about the Gorn for you!

Star Trek: They were there in 4 series – this is what we know about the Gorn!

The Gorn live in a hegemony, which means that there is a leader to whom the others are subordinate. You can look at the supremacy critically and try to get involved yourself; the structural conditions are there for that, but actually enforcing it is rather difficult in a hegemony.

According to Star Trek, the Federation first had contact with the Gorn in 2267, which was then rewritten in SNW. The lizard-like aliens are very strong, intelligent and, at a young age, also very agile. They communicate through light signals, as we saw in the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode “Memento Mori.”

The Gorn can spit a kind of poison, which they use to ensure their survival. All infected become breeding grounds for Gorn hatchlings, which kill the host upon birth. The young Gorn then fight among themselves until only the strongest survives.

On January 19, 1967, American viewers became acquainted with the Gorn for the first time. In the “Star Enterprise” episode “All New Dimensions,” Kirk (William Shatner) and his crew arrive on the planet Cestus III, where a Federation colony has been completely destroyed.

The Gorn were responsible for this attack and a fight ultimately breaks out between Kirk and the Gorn captain. This battle is brought about by a more advanced species, the Metrons. These make it clear: the losing captain’s ship will be destroyed.

When Kirk finally wins the fight, he lets the Gorn captain live, for which he is praised by the Metrons. The Gorn captain and his ship are spared and there is a dialogue between the Gorn and the Enterprise,

In a conversation with the Gorn captain, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Pille (DeForest Kelley) realize that the Federation may have acted wrongly and that from the Gorn perspective it seemed like an invasion because Cestus III falls into Gorn territory. Peace cannot be ruled out after this exchange. The episode takes place in the year 2267.
