In “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” we learn more about Spock’s relationship with T’Pring. But what happened to the half-Vulcan after the relationship ended? There are many indications of a marriage with Saavik.
- Spock was engaged to T’Pring, but they never married. He later closed this with another Vulcan.
- For a long time, fans have suspected that Spock married Saavik. Now this theory seems to be confirmed.
- A comic cover shows Spock with the most important people in his life. Saavik is among them.
In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, we learn more about Spock’s (Ethan Peck) relationship with T’Pring (Gia Sandhu). The engagement of the two has existed for almost as long as the “Star Trek” universe has existed, because in “Starship Enterprise”, which takes place a few years after SNW, the two break up.
But T’Pring is not the only woman in Spock’s life. In Star Trek: The Next Century, Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) reveals that he was at Spock’s (Leonard Nimoy) wedding. Who the bride was was never revealed in official canon, but theories have always existed – and they may now become canon!
In “Star Trek II – The Wrath of Khan” Saavik (Kirstie Alley) was introduced as a Vulcan who was Spock’s protégé. He supported her in Starfleet, and ‘Star Trek IV’ saw Saavik (then recast as Robin Curtis) make her last appearance.
We learn that she helped Spock with the Pon Farr, the Vulcan mating ritual, after his rebirth in “Star Trek III”. In the originally planned version, Saavik was supposed to be pregnant by Spock and therefore withdraw from the adventure stories of the Enterprise. However, this has been hinted at at best and left open to fans to speculate.
The relationship has been a theme in numerous non-canon stories such as comics and novels, and now publisher IDW is releasing a comic entitled “Star Trek: Defiant #2 – Spock”, which is part of the official canon. An aged Spock is depicted on the cover, alongside a collage of the most important people in his life.
We see Spock with Picard, together they made peace with the Romulans. Spock is seen with Captain Kirk (William Shatner), Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and his sister Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). Fans can even spot the Enterprise.
It is striking that T’Pring is not visible, but Saavik is. Many fans see this as a confirmation of Spock and Saavik’s relationship! Will their marriage now become official canon? The “Star Trek” future will tell!
However, we also learn more about Spock’s relationship with T’Pring: in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Season 2. First, however, “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3 starts on Amazon Prime Video. The final season of Star Trek: Picard begins on February 17, 2023.
