Star Wars 10: Will the story of Rey, Finn and Poe continue after all?

Disney is working on numerous new “Star Wars” projects. Does that include Star Wars: Episode 10? Netzwelt reveals what speaks for a return of Rey, Finn and Poe.

  • Disney still has big plans for “Star Wars”, but the last movie was almost three years ago.
  • New films are said to focus on the High Republic or after the sequels.
  • So is “Star Wars: Episode 10” possible with Rey, Finn and Poe?

The Skywalker saga, which includes a total of 9 films, is officially over. Of course, that doesn’t mean the end of “Star Wars”, quite the opposite: “The Mandalorian” is one of the most popular titles on Disney+ and series like “Obi-Wan Kenobi” are also in great demand. However, after 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker underperformed, Disney has become more cautious about Star Wars movies.

Of course, it will also continue on the big screen, for the end of 2023 a new “Star Wars” film by Taika Waititi is expected. Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy recently announced that “Star Wars” will move away from the Skywalker saga and tell stories that play before the prequels or after the sequels.

On the one hand, this means the era of the High Republic, a period that lies far in the past. The Republic prospered there, and the Jedi maintained law and order throughout the universe. Books and comics already tell about this time and form the basis for upcoming films and series.

The time after the sequels, however, is still largely unknown. Of course, films could jump far into the future here, but it is more likely that the end of the First Order and the rebuilding of the Jedi Order will be told. This would allow the film to tie into Episode 9 and become the unofficial Episode 10, even if Disney moves away from the episode division.

Since Rey, Finn and Poe are not members of the Skywalker family – although Rey has adopted that surname – Episode 10 would not be a continuation of the Skywalker saga, but it would bring back familiar characters and mark the beginning of a new era whose future is yet to come is open.

If and when there will really be a reunion with Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac is still in the stars. The tarnished reputation of the sequel trilogy could argue against “Star Wars 10”, but over time fans also accepted the once hated prequels, so maybe Disney just waits a little longer.

Currently, “Star Wars” fans can look forward to a new episode of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” every week, and in August we will continue with “Star Wars: Andor”. Fall will be exciting with new episodes of The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi, followed by a reunion with Grogu in February 2023 in The Mandalorian Season 3.
