Star Wars – Ahsoka: Connection to “The Mandalorian” – what happened to Sabine Wren’s parents?

STAR WARS: AHSOKA

In “Ahsoka” the tragic fate of Sabine’s parents is discussed. But how did they die? There is a connection to “The Mandalorian” here.

  • Sabine Wren is Ahsoka’s student in “Ahsoka”, but the two have a difficult foundation of trust.
  • It is mentioned that Ahsoka is said to have stopped Sabine from rushing to help her parents.
  • Sabine Wren’s parents were last seen in “Star Wars Rebels”. What happened to them?

Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) is one of the heroines in “Ahsoka”. However, she and the titular heroine, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), don’t always see eye to eye and a core theme is that Ahsoka doesn’t seem to put enough trust in Sabine. This is supported with a brief aside suggesting that Ahsoka would have prevented Sabine from saving her parents.

To what extent this is true and depends on perspective will certainly soon become apparent, the fact is that Sabine’s parents have died. But how? In “Star Wars Rebels” they were at least still alive.

We last saw Sabine’s parents, including her mother Ursa Wren, in the fourth season of Star Wars Rebels. In the “Star Wars” chronology, that was around 14 years ago. A long period of time in which a lot can and did happen.

However, before we get to what happened between “Rebels” and “Ahsoka,” let’s recall what happened in “Rebels.” In the third season, Sabine decided to return to her family. She was estranged from her family, but they were able to get along again.

In the fourth season, Sabine, her family and other Mandalorian followers of the Wren clan set out to free Sabine’s father, Alrich Wren, from the clutches of the Empire on Mandalore. Bo-Katan Kryze is also there. At the time, Sabine Wren wields the Darksaber.

On Mandalore, Sabine and the other Mandalorians must destroy a dangerous weapon that can penetrate even Beskar, the metal from which Mandalorian armor is made. The tragedy is that Sabine herself developed this weapon during her time at the Imperial Academy.

The Mandalorians are able to destroy the weapon and save Alrich Wren. Sabine then hands the darksaber over to Bo-Katan Kryze because she doesn’t feel up to the task of leading Mandalore. Clan Wren – and thus Sabine’s family – joins Bo-Katan.

Ahsoka: The Night of a Thousand Tears from “The Mandalorian” is hinted at!

We already heard about the legendary “Night of a Thousand Tears” in “The Mandalorian”. It’s an attack on Mandalore ordered by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). After Bo-Katan and Sabine regained Mandalore, he saw the attack as a necessary evil.

Many Mandalorians were killed and the atmosphere was said to be so toxic after this attack that Mandalore was considered uninhabitable. (In “The Mandalorian” Season 3, this was revealed to be a lie that Gideon used to secretly establish a base on Mandalore.)

Since it is implied that Sabine wanted to rush to help and was stopped by Ahsoka, it can be assumed that Ursa Wren and Sabine’s remaining family died in an attack by the Empire. Chronologically and through the reference to Mandalore, it would make sense if Sabine’s family died during the Night of a Thousand Tears.

Soon after, the Empire fell and the Mandalorians were scattered across the galaxy. There was no home left as everyone thought Mandalore was uninhabitable, and Bo-Katan blamed herself for this terrible attack as she surrendered to Moff Gideon.

We’ll definitely find out more soon. Every Wednesday a new episode appears in the streaming program on Disney+. “Ahsoka” consists of 8 episodes. We’ll list all other new “Star Wars” releases for you!
