Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster confirms its arrival for February 28, 2024

Nightdive Studios promises a nice facelift to Star Wars Dark Forces : the remaster should display a 4k resolution and a framerate of up to 120 frames per second (except for its Nintendo Switch iteration). The studio intends to give the gameplay a facelift as well, in order to make the handling more flexible, especially with regard to the compatibility of the game with current controllers. These are laudable intentions, which nevertheless clash a little with the comments made by Larry Kuperman (Director of Business Development at Nightdive Studios) in an interview given to our colleagues at IGN. He declared: “What we’re trying to do is make you relive what you felt playing the original. That’s our mission. Our mantra is always preservation, and you don’t preserve things by changing them .” Preserve, conserve, and modify without changing… It’s a beautiful balancing act that Nightdive engages in.

Kyle Katarn, always in our hearts

What about this Star Wars: Dark Forces for those who have not tasted it? In this FPS dating from 1995, players find themselves in the shoes of Kyle Katarn, a former soldier of the Empire turned bounty hunter. The latter joins the ranks of the Rebel Alliance, and after a few plot twists, is entrusted with the mission of infiltrating the Empire in order to update the Dark Trooper project. Project which consists of creating Imperial soldiers much more powerful than simple Storm Troopers. Connoisseurs of the series The Mandalorian will not fail to note the use of the terms “Dark Troopers” which will tickle their neurons.

Star Wars: Dark Forces will arrive on February 28, 2024 on all platforms: PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
