Every year, May 4th is a bit of a celebration for Ewoks, Force and lightsabers fans: it’s Star Wars Day. A date far from being insignificant (“May the Fourth” in English), since it is a nod to the famous phrase “May the Force be with you“… either “May the force be with you” in French version.

A special day that provides a good reason to dive back into the universe created by George Lucas, and to discover films, series and documentaries related to the saga that we may not have known.

Digital helps you expand your horizons away from the main series and films by recommending five little-known Star Wars programs to watch or watch again on the Disney+ streaming platform.

Star Wars: Clone Wars

This 2D animated mini-series looks back at the events taking place between Attack of the Clones And Revenge of the Sith.

Attention, this series is not to be confused with Star Wars: The Clone Wars released in 2008, in 3D animation this time. Directed by the brilliant Genndy Tartakovsky (The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Primal), Clone Wars is a true gem of animation, the perfect narrative complement to films. New adventures that dig deeper into the characters and offer inspired action sequences with exhilarating visual inventiveness. 25 short episodes for fans and the curious.

Light&Magic

It’s 1975, and director George Lucas faces a problem: there’s no visual effects company in Hollywood capable of producing what he wants for his new Star Wars movie. George and image expert John Dykstra then assemble an unlikely team of artists and dreamers for this work. Industrial Light & Magic was born.

This six-part documentary series is a must-watch for movie buffs and fans of the Star Wars universe. Thanks to exceptional archives and crazy testimonials from technicians of that time, Light&Magic offers a captivating journey through time. A portrait gallery of unexpected tenderness, and a brilliant documentary series that takes us back to the origins of the greatest effects company in the history of cinema.

Zen: Grogu and the Susuwatari

A short film where we see little Grogu, aka Baby Yoda, in deep meditation. He will then meet the Susuwatari, famous “black women” visible in the films My Neighbor Totoro And Spirited away from Ghibli studios.

This three-minute short film in traditional animation is by Katsuya Kondo, animator of Ghibli on the films Porco Rosso And Princess Mononoke. A Zen parenthesis to the bewitching music of Ludwig Göransson (The Mandalorian), the perfect way to start the day.

Star Wars: Visions

This animated series is made up of two “volumes” (seasons) of nine short films each, produced by major studios around the world.

An anthology that offers new stories and refreshing visual proposals, within the sometimes too calibrated universe of George Lucas. The second season, with films from Aardmann Studios (Wallace and Gromit), Cartoon Saloon (The Wolf People) and the French-speaking La Cachette, is a small pleasure of the program. The set is certainly uneven but it succeeds in its mission: to revive our enthusiasm and our love of the Star Wars franchise.

Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett

A tribute to the origins and legacy of famed Star Wars bounty hunter Boba Fett.

A short 22-minute documentary that looks back on one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars saga. If we can regret that it leaves a taste of too little, Under the helmet: the heritage of Boba Fett reveals many unpublished archives, and behind the scenes of the creation of the character. In addition, famous speakers, such as Joe Johnston and Dave Filoni, come to bring their anecdotes. A documentary that will delight fans, and make you see the series in a new light The Mandalorian.
