Star Wars: Ewan McGregor’s brother is a real pilot and you’ll never guess his nickname

If your brother was Obi-Wan Kenobi – at least in a galaxy far, far away – and you were a pilot here on Earth, what nickname would you have taken?

Ewan McGregor’s brother, Colin McGregor – who served as a Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot in the UK – is said to have a very peculiar codename. Despite retiring after a 20-year career in 2007, Colin McGregor is rumored to have used the coolest aviator name in the galaxy when he was a serving member of the military, a nickname linked to the iconic role of Jedi Knight that his younger brother played in the Star Wars prequel, from The Phantom Menace (1999) to Revenge of the Sith (2005), then again in his own series, Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2022.

Did you guess? Code name: “Obi-Two”, please! After all, there can only be one “Obi-Wan/One”. Shared everywhere on the net, we only ask that the rumor be true!

Colin McGregor, in any case, seems to use Obi-Two to refer to himself (on Twitter in particular, as in the examples below): whether he did it officially in the army or only unofficially for fun, the code name remains perfect.

I didn’t hear your phrase @mcgregor_ewan, I’ll have to go back! #obi-wan from #obi-two

Good morning ! #ObiWan #ObiTwo

The McGregor brothers also discussed their passion for the Royal Air Force in the documentary RAF at 100 with Ewan and Colin McGregor in 2018. Together, they celebrate the RAF’s centenary there by telling its story, flying planes from the First World War to the present day, and meeting veterans.

(Re)discover Ewan McGregor as dear Obi-Wan in the Stars Wars prelogy as well as in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, all available on Disney+.
