Ezra’s home world was only slightly illuminated in “Ahsoka”, but Lothal, as it is called, plays an important role in the “Star Wars” story. Especially for the Jedi!
- Lothal is a planet in the Outer Rim that was discovered by the Jedi long before the first settlers.
- Carved into a stone monolith, there is a hidden Jedi temple on Lothal.
- You can only enter and leave this temple together as master and student.
In “Ahsoka,” Ezra Bridger’s (Eman Esfandi) homeworld received little attention, but it has a special meaning for the Jedi in the history of the “Star Wars” universe. Those who have seen Star Wars Rebels know about the hidden Jedi Temple on Lothal.
Although the planet was seen in live action, we didn’t see much of it at the start of the series when Sabine Wren lived alone with her Loth cat. There were the cities to see and the steppe where Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) ambushed Sabine. For example, we haven’t seen the tall stone monoliths yet…
“Star Wars” History: The First Settlers and the Jedi Temple
Lothal is located in the Outer Rim and is therefore not a particularly interesting planet for both the Republic and the Separatists during the Clone Wars. A sleepy planet on the edge of civilization? The first settlers settled on Lothal around 3,500 years before the Clone Wars.
What they don’t know, however, is that the planet was visited much earlier by the Jedi, who built a Jedi temple there. Because the temple is hidden away, carved into a stone monolith, of which there are plenty on Lothal, most settlers have no idea that there is a temple on Lothal.
The fact that the temple is so old that even the locals now know nothing about it became an advantage when Order 66 was declared. Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) had most of the Jedi temples destroyed when he came to power. The one on Lothal remained due to its secretive nature.
The Jedi Temple on Lothal – entrance and exit demand strength
When we get to know the temple in “Star Wars Rebels”, we learn that the temple is only owned by Master AND students can enter. Together and with the help of power, they gain access to the temple and only together can they leave it again.
In the temple itself, the padawan must pass trials while separated from the master. These trials test the padawan’s interpersonal bonds with other people. Only if the tests are passed can they leave the temple together.
Power vergence provides a special connection to power
Since there is a power vergence on Lothal, a confluence of power that increases it many times over, powerful visions can be experienced in the temple. The creatures such as the Loth cats and Loth wolves are also strongly connected to the Force, which means that Ezra has a close bond with the animals there using the Force.
Emperor Palpatine also became aware of the importance of the temple on Lothal after he found it. Palpatine had the temple searched for and destroyed through a violent invasion. This means he no longer exists by the time of “Ahsoka,” but that doesn’t mean we won’t see him again.
Access to the world between worlds makes Lothal more relevant than ever!
What made the temple so special was the access to the world between worlds. A large mural of the father, son and daughter has already marked how closely the temple is connected to power.
In “Ahsoka” both the world between worlds and the father, son and daughter became important once again. Anakin (Hayden Christensen) met Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) in the world between worlds and Bayan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) sought out giant statues of the father, son and daughter.
In the future of the Mandoverse, our heroes, especially Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), will probably have to find access to the world between worlds again, and Lothal will certainly be important again, even though the Jedi Temple has been destroyed.
It is currently not clear which series will start next. Lucasfilm also wants to produce something again soon on the film front. We list all new “Star Wars” releases for you!
