The new Star Wars series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is currently flickering across the Disney + screens – and seems to create a contradiction to “Star Wars 9”. The series about Obi-Wan and his former student Anakin seems to suggest that there is a so-called duality of power between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan.

But let’s go back a few steps. In “Star Wars – Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker”, the 2019 conclusion of the Sequel trilogy, Emperor Palpatine recognizes that there is a duo of power between Rey and Kylo Ren, also known as a dyad. For example, the two Force-sensitive beings can communicate with each other across light-years, sense each other’s emotions, and even gain power over life itself.
Palpatine explains that there hasn’t been a dyad like this in generations.
Exactly at this point there is – possibly – a contradiction to “Obi-Wan Kenobi”. For example, when Vader and Obi-Wan both heal in their respective bacta tanks at the beginning of the 4th episode of the “Star Wars” series, they go through the same emotions and remember exactly the same moments of their fight.
When Obi-Wan is briefed on Anakin’s fate earlier, Darth Vader, in turn, speaks Obi-Wan’s name out loud for the first time.
These two examples from “Obi-Wan Kenobi” certainly seem to suggest that Anakin and Obi-Wan form a duo of power – after all, in both cases they are far apart. And just like with Kylo and Rey, the dark side of the force is also represented here in the person of Darth Vader in the two-person relationship, which is a basic requirement for a dyad.

Perhaps the special bond between the two in the Force has simply gone undiscovered, as it has never evolved. And that could be the reason why Emperor Palpatine never noticed the duo. The Sith Lord only noticed the connection between Rey and Kylo.
