Ubisoft has just recently announced to the galaxy the release date of the promising Star Wars Outlaws. Since then, new hot and cold details have emerged.
Star Wars Outlaws is shaping up to be a major addition to Ubisoft’s catalog. The French giant’s vision of the galaxy far, far away looks pretty compelling. We have also seen that she will allow herself strong nods to the work of George Lucas. But some news has tempered fans’ enthusiasm.
Like a bad feeling about Star Wars Outlaws?
Since Star Wars Outlaws places its plot between the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, let’s start with the sobering news. First of all, the game will require a mandatory Internet connection for its installation, both on PC and on PS5 and Xbox Series. Despite the existence of a physical version, the cake alone will not be enough to install this vast galaxy on your machine. In addition to a very probable Day One patch, the obligatory Internet connection will in fact serve as DRM to verify the validity of your copy. A problem which is no longer quite a problem these days, but which is worth noting.
Then, and unfortunately this was to be expected: Star Wars Outlaws will arrive with a Season Pass. With the basic edition at 70 euros, players will only have access to the main adventure. From the Gold edition priced at 109.99 euros, they will also unlock the Season Pass, as well as three days early access to the game. Same observation for the Ultimate edition, at the rather steep price of 129.99 euros and including additional goodies. The Season Pass includes two major DLCs which will offer their share of new stories, quests and zones. At launch, the Pass will finally allow access to an exclusive mission centered on Jabba the Hutt, as well as cosmetic elements providing a strong nod to the Kessel raid in less than 12 parsecs by Han Solo.
The return of some familiar faces
We continue the visit to the cargo ship with a little more positive information for Star Wars Outlaws. The title developed by Massive Entertainment and powered by the convincing Snowdrop engine really intends to place itself in the canon of this vast universe. In the trailer announcing its release date, we could also see Han Solo (not in his best form, you will agree), as well as Jabba the Hutt.
These will clearly not be the only references to Star Wars and its circle of smugglers. Another reference to the iconic character originally played by Harrison Ford should appear. Qi’ra, played by Emilia Clarke in Solo: A Star Wars Story, would also be there. Unfortunately, the actress should in principle not reprise her role for the game. Given the latest trailers, Star Wars Outlaws in any case seems to show some potential. We will be able to see it better from August 30 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series in the company of Kay Vess and the adorable Nix. Or August 27, for those ready to extend Imperial credits for other editions of the game.
