The Old Republic is founded
The Old Republic came into being around 25,000 BSY (before the Battle of Yavin, i.e. before Luke destroyed the first Death Star in “Episode 4: A New Hope”). At the same time, the Jedi Order was founded on the planet Ahch-To, where Luke was training Rey in The Last Jedi.
The Jedi have not always served the Republic as keepers of the peace. Some Jedi used blasters instead of lightsabers, wore heavy armor or held political posts; it was only later that there were clear rules as to what a Jedi had to do and not do.
The Hundred Years of Darkness
Around 7000 BSY, a Jedi came to the conclusion that the only way to understand the Force is to also learn about the dark side. The Jedi Order rejected this proposal and banished the Jedi, who then founded the Sith and found some Jedi to join him. A period of war known as the Hundred Years of Darkness ensued.
Battle against the Mandalorians
As the Mandalorians spread through the universe after the Hundred Years of Darkness, they met the Jedi. A war began in which the Mandalorians made their armor, which should be as resistant as possible to Jedi attacks. Ultimately, the Mandalorians lost, and as a result of the war, the planet Mandalore was left burned and empty.
Tarre Vizsla, a Mandalorian, later became a Jedi and created the Darksaber, which remained in the Jedi Temple after his death until stolen by other Mandalorians.
The end of the Old Republic
The Sith continued to pose a threat to the Jedi and the Old Republic, and in 1032 BBY another major war broke out, during which the Sith even briefly managed to capture Coruscant. After the Jedi victory, the Sith were considered defeated.
There followed the end of the Old Republic and the beginning of the Galactic Republic, and with it what seemed an age of peace. The Jedi would continue to bring justice to the universe, but they no longer served as soldiers for the Republic and trained a new generation of Jedi.
The Sith, who continued to exist in secret, only revealed themselves again almost 1000 years later. The age of the Galactic Republic also includes the so-called High Republic, a particularly peaceful phase in the galaxy.
Both the Old Republic and the High Republic are set to play a larger role in future Star Wars releases. The Old Republic in particular offers numerous exciting elements, such as the emergence of the Jedi and the Sith and various wars, that fans would like to see rather than just hear about.
However, Disney might prefer to tell new stories from this period so that viewers can be surprised and don’t know in advance how the canon-confirmed wars will end.
