A season that leaves Japan

Released in September 2021, Star Wars: Visions obviously worked well enough for Disney+ to order a second season. Always composed of nine short episodes independent of each other, it will arrive on the streaming platform on May 4. On the other hand, unlike the first (which we criticized here), this time the anthology series will not only be overseen by animation studios from Japan.

Indeed, the different stories told have been created by many countries and cultures in order to multiply genres and points of view. In addition to the trailer, here is the description of each episode. These tell short stories taking place at different times in the saga and often unrelated to known characters, places or events, it is quite possible to taste them without being a Star Wars fan.

Everything about the episodes of Star Wars: Visions Volume 2

Sith : produced by the young Spanish studio El Guiri, directed and written by Rodrigo Blaas (former of Blue Sky and Pixar and collaborator of Guillermo del Toro on Trollhunters).

Screecher’s Reach : produced by Irish studio Cartoon Saloon, directed by Paul Young. This is the team behind the solid and acclaimed films WolfWalkers, Song of the Sea And The Secret of Kells.

In the Stars : produced by the Chileans of Punkrobot and written and directed by Gabriel Osorio. His short film Bear Story won an Oscar in 2016.

I Am Your Mother : produced by the English of Aardman (Wallace and Gromit) and directed by Magdalena Osinska. What to review a little stop motion before the return of chicken run on Netflix.

Journey to the Dark Head : heading to South Korea with the Mir studio (The Legend of Korra, Dota: Dragon’s Blood, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf…) and director Hyeong Geun Park. This is his first project managed from A to Z.

The Spy Dancer : Cocorico with the French studio La Cachette and director-screenwriter Julien Chheng. Ernest and Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia or Primalit is (notably) him.

The Bandits of Golak : signed by Ishan Shukla of Indian studio 88 Pictures. The director is best known for his award-winning short film Schirkoa.

The Pit : co-directed (with Justin Ridge), written and produced by LeAndre Thomas, this episode comes to us from Lucasfilm and D’art Shtajio. So there will be a touch of Japan and America in this season.

Aau’s Song : finally, coming from the South African studio Triggerfish, the last episode was written and directed by Nadia Darries and Daniel Clarke. We owe them in particular stick man.

It was highly anticipated and did not disappoint. Disney+ is not a Netflix rival, but a complementary offer, geared particularly towards children and more broadly towards the family. The Star universe, meanwhile, remains the poor relation of the platform and will require several years of work to catch up with its competitors.
