Starfield: 900 planets will be lifeless

Starfieldthe next role-playing game from Bethesda Softworks (The Elder Scrolls, fallout), already promises an exciting journey to the stars, the developers announced last summer that the title will offer more than 1,000 planets to exploreit must be said that the studio used procedural technologies to create this universe.

But quantity often does not equal quality, and of course, not all starfield planets will be equal. In a recent podcast from Kinda Funny Gamesgame director Todd Howard clarified that only 10% of the planets will have life. He adds:

For us, we consider this to give you choices when looking at a system. Here are the many things you could do. This could include visiting barren planets that are only there to collect resources, or planets with large cities and settlements for players to explore and progress through the story.

Obviously, it’s procedural, so there’s no way we’re going to handcraft an entire planet. What we do is we handcraft individual locations and some of them are placed specifically like major towns and other quest locations and then we have items that spawn or place when you land depending on this planet.

In theory, that’s still a hundred planets with lifeenough to keep most players busy, while the most curious can explore other additional planets to collect resources and feel like a real space adventurer.

The release date of Starfield is as a reminder set for September 6, 2023 on PC and Xbox Series X|S, you can pre-order it at €79.99 on Amazon.
