Starfield: a huge update available, fans are delighted!

Todd Howard mentioned it in a recent video, Starfield welcomes a new update this week. Like version 1.9.51, this May 2024 patch changes a lot of things, the developers continue to improve their space role-playing game to satisfy players.

Once again, Bethesda talks about ‘Starfield’s biggest update since launch’, it adds more detailed surface maps, new difficulty options, new display parameters and even new ship customization features. Community Director Jessica Finster and Joe Mueller, Istvan Pely and Tim Lamb from Bethesda Game Studios explain everything to us in the video above, here’s everything you need to know:

IMPROVED SURFACE MAPS

Community feedback is a great source of inspiration for our team at Bethesda Game Studios, and one of the most anticipated features is the introduction of more detailed surface maps, which this new update brings. day. On these enhanced maps, surface points will be replaced by terrain markers. Additionally, points of interest will now appear on maps, making it easier for you to find your way around and see what’s around you.

Additionally, new markers have been added in major cities to indicate the location of merchants, and each of these markers will act as a fast travel point that you can directly and quickly access from your scanner or the surface map.

NEW GAMEPLAY OPTIONS

This new update will also include a host of new gameplay options, including the ability to increase merchant credits or your maximum loadout, or access your ship’s cargo hold from anywhere via your inventory. You will also be able to modify survival features, such as the effects of food or environmental hazards. Obviously, you will also find new combat-related parameters allowing, for example, to make space combat more difficult, while making combat on dry land easier, if you wish. If you’re looking for a serious challenge, check out the Extreme difficulty level, a step above Very Hard. These settings can be optimized to give you the type of gameplay that suits you best. Depending on how you balance them, you may be able to benefit from an experience bonus.

NEW TOOLS FOR CUSTOMIZING SHIP INTERIORS

In Starfield, your ship is your home. This new update brings a new dimension to this idea by increasing the degree of customization of the interior of your ships. This system is now similar to the Outpost decoration system. With this update, you will also discover new empty housing modules, allowing you to decorate them from top to bottom. You will also be able to modify the interior configuration of your ship, taking advantage of more slots for doors.

DISPLAY SETTINGS ON XBOX SERIES

Many of you have shared with us the desire to have more control over the graphical fidelity and performance of the game on Xbox, like players on PC. Customization settings will now be available on Xbox Series X, allowing you to find the configuration best suited to your playing style and your screen.
For each of these settings, we recommend a 120 Hz display with variable refresh rate (VRR), and ensure that your console is correctly configured to use it. Thus, the target refresh rate will now be set by default to 40, while maintaining priority for full visuals.

  • Target refresh rate : You can now choose between 30, 40, 60 FPS or Unlimited refresh rate on variable refresh rate (VRR) displays. If you don’t have a 120 Hz VRR screen, you can still choose 30 or 60 IPS. Image tearing can sometimes occur when you choose a refresh rate of 60 FPS on a display without VRR.
  • Priority : You can now prioritize Graphics or Performance while trying to maintain a target refresh rate. If you choose a target refresh rate of 60 FPS or higher, we recommend prioritizing Performance. Prioritizing Graphics maintains the maximum resolution and highest detail for special effects, lighting, and crowds. Prioritizing Performance reduces internal resolution and detail in special effects, lighting, and crowds. Both modes can also adjust the internal resolution dynamically as scenes or action become more complex. When you change modes, the lighting will change briefly while the system adapts to the new mode.
  • Vertical synchronization : You can now choose whether or not to enable vertical sync. Disabling this option will separate your game’s frame rate from your monitor’s refresh rate, which can lead to frame tearing. Conversely, enabling it will sync your game’s frame rate to your monitor’s refresh rate, preventing frame tearing but limiting the number of frames.

MODIFYING TRAITS IN NEW PART +

Replayability is a very important element in Bethesda Game Studios’ games, and in Starfield, the universe expands even further with New Game +. Now, after entering the Unit, you will have the ability to change your appearance and traits, allowing you to choose who you will play as in your new universe.

GAME COMFORT IMPROVEMENTS

In addition to the main features brought by this update, you will also find a number of gameplay comfort improvements, including the ability to deactivate the dialogue camera. You will be able to observe the scenes from the perspective you have chosen. Also benefit from new tabs making it easier to navigate the container and barter menus.

This should delight players! Bethesda finally specifies that the developers continue their efforts, other updates will arrive in the coming months, including a terrestrial vehicle to more easily explore the planetsthe official support for mods and of course the extension Shattered Spacenow scheduled for late 2024.
