Starfield presents a very cute and friendly robot

Still no gameplay, but a companion as cute as it is useful. Check out the latest Starfield video to meet VASCO

Only a few days after images of an old build circulated on the web, Starfield returns with a new official video. And like other dev diaries, the media focuses on a very specific aspect of the game.

VASCO, the future mascot of Starfield?

Probably to forget the almost unsightly images dating from 2018, Bethesda unveils a new developer notebook. No space base, no environments, no snippets of gameplay. The new extracts focus on one thing: VASCO. Behind this acronym hides a red and white expedition robot, as cute as it is friendly.

This small, bipedal metal being belongs to the Constellation service and was designed to aid in extended expeditions. To do this, it is fitted with components that make it capable of carrying survival gear and other payloads. All-terrain, the robot is able to cross any uneven surface. In short, the ideal companion for long space trips.

A cute but potentially fearsome robot

Don’t be fooled by her cute looks though. If he is a pacifist, the robot is not defenseless. Istvan Pely, lead artist of Starfield, explains that VASCO can be formidable in the event of retaliation. Words supported by the concept arts shown on the video which suggest a kind of assault rifle nestled in his right arm. Note also the presence of a square box on his shoulders which probably contains a rocket launcher or similar arsenal.

He is a reliable companion and an intrepid explorer, just like you.“, concludes the artist in the video. As a small bonus, some excerpts from what appear to be Starfield in-game images support this new developer diary. The opportunity to see VASCO move on a planet, talk, and see the main character in the cockpit of his ship. For more concrete gameplay, you will certainly have to wait until this summer, during the Summer Game Fest 2022.
