The satellite Internet connection service, Starlink, directly competes with operators’ fiber optic offers in terms of price.

Starlink is trying a new coup to nibble market share from telecom operators. Barely a year after having halved the price of its subscription in France (dropping it from 99 to 50 euros per month), the service has just entered a promotional period, until the end of the month. This allows it to get a little closer to traditional operators.

Good pricing news for new and old customers

On its site, Starlink announces to reduce the price of its subscription in metropolitan France by 20%. Now he goes from 50 to 40 euros per month, ” for a high-speed, low-latency internet connection, even in the most remote and rural locations “Adds the company of Elon Musk.

The offer runs until July 31, and obviously, it is not limited to this date for those who subscribe to it. In other words: yes, if you subscribe in the next few days, you will keep this price of 40 euros per month permanently.

Starlink customers who already had a subscription would not be left out! The company indeed indicates in an e-mail that the reduction will also apply to all invoices published from July 7, 2023.

Starlink matches with French telecoms

Above all, Starlink wants to convince customers who are hesitant and who have not yet made the switch to the satellite offer, the fault being the excessive cost of the equipment (Starlink antenna, base, router, cables) which until then was 450 euros. At the same time as the drop in the subscription, the company also announces that the price of the equipment will drop from 450 to 199 euros. A significant drop, accompanied by that of the administrative and shipping costs of the whole, which are only 23 euros. All this until July 31.

Remember that the Starlink offer includes a download speed that can go, on paper, from 50 to 200 Mbits/s, and between 20 and 40 Mbits/s in upstream speed. This could not be more correct, especially if you find yourself in a white zone, not yet covered by the operators. It also remains one of the cheapest Starlink offers in Europe.

Starlink also competes directly with ISPs in terms of price. Once the promotional period of 12 months has passed (which makes it possible to obtain fiber optic prices between 18 and 40 euros), monthly fiber packages generally run between 30 and 55 euros in France. Starlink cleverly positions itself right in the middle of this range.
