star link has just revised significantly downwards the price of its subscription in France, making it twice as accessible as when it was launched. A new price that does not make the Internet service by space much more relevant for French users.

Offer high-speed charter internet everywhere in the world, including in the most remote areas, not covered or poorly covered by traditional networks. This has been the objective of Starlink, a space internet service headed by the American SpaceX, since its inception. With an offer of 99 euros per month in our latitudes, Starlink was however unattractive. This has just changed with a noticeably lower price list in France… but unfortunately not for everything.

Starlink becomes more affordable in France

As pointed out Numeramathe price now goes to 50 euros per month, ie a reduction of half the cost of the subscription, to which is added an outright abolition of the 59 euros claimed for sending the kit and the service costs.

Still, if the subscription price drops considerably in France, this price revision comes a few months after an increase in the asking price for the installation kit. Indispensable to enjoy the Internet by Starlink, the latter includes a dish, a Wi-Fi router, a power supply, a mounting tripod and cables. Displayed at 499 euros at the launch of the service, the latter rose to 634 euros last March.

In France, the Starlink starter pack therefore costs 684 euros all inclusive (50 euros for the first month of subscription + 634 euros for the kit).

A service that is still not very relevant in France…

Note that this downward revision of the subscription price is not the only change announced by Starlink. At the beginning of August, the platform had indicated by email to its customers that a new policy would be implemented to make the use of the service fairer.

The idea? Prioritize users who consume less than 250 GB of data per month, while maintaining unlimited access for all. The biggest consumers of data should therefore see their speeds drop once the 250 GB mark is crossed. ” Users can also choose to purchase additional data to recover priority at €10/100GB. Prioritization is based on data usage only, regardless of content provider “, specifies Starlink in an email consulted by Numerama.

Note that despite its new price list, Starlink remains a relatively irrelevant service in France, where the solutions offered by traditional operators and access providers remain more advantageous in the majority of cases… including in the most isolated thanks to the progressing deployment of 4G and 5G networks.
