Starlink will launch a $200 per month subscription that covers the whole world

According to an engineer from the company, Starlink is preparing to offer a high-speed Internet offer at 200 dollars per month. It would even concern areas that are not officially “covered”.

According to a well-informed source, Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite Internet service provider, is testing an Internet connection that would be available “virtually anywhere on the earth’s surface”. The subscription to this service would amount to $200 per monthto be added to the initial outlay of $599 for the Starlink Kit satellite reception antenna.

SpaceX’s ISP leverages its constellation of satellites in low orbit to transfer Internet streams to users covered by the service. If this Global Roaming subscription is likely to interest many users, it is still in the trial phase. Even if the company assures that it will make it possible to enjoy a “high speed and low latency connection”, it adds all the same that the browsing sessions of Internet users will be sometimes interrupted by periods of “low connectivity, or no connection at all”.

Starlink will offer broadband in countries not covered by satellites

Even if Elon Musk’s teams manage to offer this Internet offer, it is not certain that it will be accessible in all countries. If Starlink’s very high-speed satellite Internet access has been available in France since May 10, 2021, it is not certain that other countries will authorize SpaceX to deploy this offer on their territory. That said, some testers in countries such as India or Pakistan claim that the company has found a way to override the legal limitations imposed by governments.

Starlink’s new offer therefore seems particularly aimed at customers residing in countries that are not yet officially covered by their satellite network. Despite its price, more and more Internet users seem to be attracted to SpaceX’s offer. Let us recall that the aerospace company announced in December 2022 that the number of subscribers to its service had exceeded one million.
