Doctors fear that they in particular would drag the influenza pathogen into households, which could be particularly dangerous for the elderly who live there. “The last thing we need are hospitals that, in addition to those suffering from Covid, also fill up with influenza patients,” warns Redlberger-Fritz’s colleague on the vaccination committee, Albrecht Prieler. In order to prevent exactly that, the experts agree that as many people as possible should get vaccinated against influenza.
