Trump: We'll vaccinate this weekend
Immediately after the approval of the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine, US President Trump gets in touch. The vaccine will be distributed immediately and should be administered on the weekend. But he wouldn't be Trump if this announcement weren't provided with all sorts of superlatives and attacks on China.
After the first emergency approval for a corona vaccine in the USA, the elected US President Donald Trump promised his compatriots the first vaccinations this weekend. "The first vaccine will be administered in less than 24 hours," announced Trump in a video he posted on Twitter.
His government has already started shipping the vaccine from the Mainz-based pharmaceutical company Biontech and the US company Pfizer to all US states. Their governors would decide who the vaccinations would be given there first. Trump stressed that vaccinations are free for all Americans.
Looking at the vaccine's development in record time, he said, "This is one of the greatest scientific achievements in history." The vaccine will save millions of lives "and end the pandemic once and for all".
Trump presented the development as a success for his administration, which, however, is not true. The president went on to say, "The pandemic may have started in China, but we're ending it right here in America."
Republican Trump lost the US election on November 3rd to Democrat Joe Biden. Experts also attribute this to Trump's crisis management in the pandemic, which Americans give bad marks in surveys. Biden is to be sworn in on January 20th. Immediately afterwards, the Democrat wants to start a 100-day plan to fight the corona virus.
The pandemic remains out of control in the US. On Wednesday, the number of deaths in a single day had exceeded 3000 for the first time. The number of new infections registered has been more than 200,000 in the past few days.
