Start of the Junior World Championships – Ski talent: “That makes you want more”

Because Matthias Fernsebner is out, Viktoria Bürgler is Salzburg’s only starter at the Junior World Championships in France. The servant has found her feeling for the descent again.

That is bitter! Matthias Fernsebner had to cancel his participation in the 43rd Alpine Junior World Championships in Portes du Soleil (Fra). The 18-year-old (SC St. Martin near Lofer), who is at home in the speed disciplines, has to have shoulder surgery after a fall in Tarvisio last week. The season is over for the Pinzgauer. From a Salzburg perspective, all eyes are on Viktoria Bürgler (SC Dienten). The 19-year-old starts the downhill today (11.45). After the two training runs, which Bürgler finished in third place, her mood is good: “That definitely makes you want more.” Until recently, she had taken a break from the supreme discipline. “I didn’t feel safe,” said the Dienten woman, looking back on the races in Passo San Pellegrino (Italy) in December. “She can do something” With the Super-G and the giant slalom – “I feel most comfortable in these two disciplines” – Bürgler still has two more chances for precious metal. That not only the sports director Jürgen Kriechbaum (“She can do something”), but also she believes in herself. “A medal can look out. But for that I need a perfect run. I want to have fun and show what I can do.”
