Start of the Super League – from sluggish to fast: Winterthur-Lucerne stays zero – sport

  • In the 3rd game of the Super League, FC Winterthur vs. FC Luzern have their first zero of the 2023/24 season.
  • The animated second half makes up for a sluggish start. The flaw of the locals: They don’t put the ball in the opponent’s goal.
  • There are two winners in the other Saturday games: Servette succeeds at GC and St. Gallen beats FC Basel.

The first 45 minutes on the Schützenwiese was like a typical frisking. The guest from Lucerne had a slight upper hand, but overall two teams that were not yet well-rehearsed showed only lean food. The biggest excitement in a resinous, but tough and consequently disorganized first half were six yellow cards – three on each side.

Legend:

More cramp than fight

Winterthur with Alexandre Jankewitz (in red) and the guests from Lucerne started the season with restraint.

The number 3 was also…

  • for the number of substitutionswhich FCL coach Mario Frick did during the break and accordingly announced his dissatisfaction with what he had seen.
  • for the number of chances, which suddenly happened between the 51st and 56th minute. Winterthur’s Nishan Burkart was the first to take the lead, but only shot the opposing keeper Pascal Loretz. Almost in return, Marco Burch hit the ball against the post and saved a short time later with his head for the defeated Loretz.

The players had finally arrived in the game with a delay, and in the meantime there was even real momentum in moving forward. The hosts were now exerting constant pressure in advance. After a good hour Matteo Di Giusto and Samuel Ballet missed from a promising position in the same scene. Then at the end of Roman Buess Loretz showed a brilliant act and steered the leather to the edge of the goal.

Loretz hexes his colors to the point

The Eulachstadt-based team almost had to be accused of usury when Patrick Frame made his debut on the sidelines against harmless central Swiss players. They are somewhat rehabilitated insofar as Lucerne’s only 20-year-old goalie talent parried several times. So again in the final phase, when Loretz defused a Buess header with a flight show from close range.

Consequently, it stayed with this zero number with two completely opposite halves. When looking at the statistics with 8:1 shots on goal after the change of sides, the Winterthur team has to pull their hair out. Her consolation: the season is still long and we can build on that.

This is how it goes

After the championship overture, FC Luzern makes a flying change to the European Cup and has to travel to the far north to do so. The first leg of the 2nd qualifying round of the Conference League (live from 6:50 p.m. on SRF info and in the Sport App).

Back home, the FCL welcomes promoted Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy 3 days later. Winterthur continues in the Super League on Sunday with an away game against FC Basel.

On the Ardon Jashari cause: Status quo

There is no new development in FC Basel’s tug-of-war over the services of last year’s FCL shooting star Ardon Jashari, who, as announced, was not on the match sheet due to a lack of training and illness during the guest appearance at Schützenweise. More about this in the following videos:
