State party conference in Lower Austria – red “political show” for Hergovich and Babeler

The SPÖ Lower Austria chose its new state party leader Sven Hergovich with 96 percent. There was broad agreement with neo-federal party leader Andi Babler and former state party leader Franz Schnabl. The declaration of war against the black-blue system finally came strengthened.

New times for the comrades in Lower Austria: There was a full house with 750 people at the SPÖ state party conference in St. Pölten. Due to lack of space, even participants had to be rejected. There were many guests, but few words about the internal dispute with neo-federal party leader Andreas Babler. Actually, the state party had pushed his rival Hans Peter Doskozil. “The red Gsindl is alive” Mayor Matthias Stadler, as the “landlord” in the Glanzstoff-Konerei, reminded that many great social democrats emerged from there. Before Sven Hergovich was elected the new boss, predecessor Franz Schnabl stepped onto the stage and supported the 34-year-old. Hergovich then thought of the past not so smoothly: he accused the ÖVP of intentionally breaking up the coalition negotiations and looked to other federal states with black-blue coalitions. Because the demands of the SPÖ would have been easy to implement. “The red Gsindl is alive! We can be counted on again,” said the self-proclaimed “Regional Control Councilor” of the governor. First major appearance The new SPÖ federal party leader Andreas Babler made his first major appearance at a party event at this state party conference. There was no sign of mutual resentment because Hergovich had spoken out in favor of the Babler rivals at the federal party conference. Babler also had a sense of humour: “I’ve become very cautious when it comes to congratulations on election wins.” A spirit of optimism with 326 votes He was the only candidate to take part in the vote: 339 of the 341 eligible voters cast their votes. 326 voted for Hergovich, which is 96 percent. After the mutually reinforcing speeches by Babler and Hergovich, Electoral Officer Christian Farthofer identified a spirit of optimism and that we are on the right path together. “From here, this is now a declaration of war on the black-blue system,” announced Hergovich.
