“Stay in houses” – civil protection alarm triggered in the city of Kufstein

A civil defense alarm was triggered for the city of Kufstein late on Saturday evening. The population is asked to stay in their houses, not to enter underground garages and cellars and also to stay away from the dams of the rivers.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and are in constant contact with the emergency organizations,” emphasizes Elmar Rizzoli from the regional operations management.

100 missions until midnight
In the evening, the fire brigades completed around 100 missions by midnight in the Kufstein city area alone, where the water from the inflowing streams of the Inn had already reached the streets of the district capital. The Inn itself is currently not a problem, the Tyrol control center said to the APA.

Rescue and mountain rescue activated
The emergency services are in large-scale deployment throughout the Kufstein district. Söll could also become “a second hotspot”. In addition, rescue and mountain rescue were activated, as the villages are sometimes not easily accessible due to mudslides and relocated roads.

30 year flood
As emerged from the homepage of the state of Tyrol, the water levels in Tyrol exceeded a 30-year flood at three measuring points. The Brixentaler Ache near Bruckhäusl (Kufstein district) and the Kelchsauer Ache near Hörbrunn (Kufstein district) were affected around midnight. The Gschlösslbach in Innergschlöss (Lienz district) was also above the mark of a 30-year flood.

Recommendations for behavior for the population:

  • Find out more about the flood situation at www.tirol.gv.at/hydro-online.
  • Follow the instructions of the authorities.
  • Do not obstruct the security forces.
  • Stay away from river banks.
  • Do not use any sidewalks.
  • Do not stand on bridges, high waves and driftwood increase the risk
  • Avoid standing in underpasses.
  • Avoid outdoor recreational activities.
  • Do not take unnecessary trips, especially at night.
  • Watch out for sirens: A three-minute tone warns you; in the event of imminent danger, the tone goes up and down for one minute. Then you should definitely go to higher areas or safe parts of the building.
  • When the civil defense alarm is triggered, information is received via the radio

Felbertauernstrasse closed
Due to the risk of mudslides, the Felbertauernstraße is closed between the toll station and Hinterburg.
