Steam: Anti-mask remarks hidden in the Patchnote of an indie game

In order to get his message across, the developer of an independent game had an original idea to say the least. He hid his messages in his game’s patch notes, to avoid being spotted too easily by Steamwho does not appreciate political messages.

The best way to flirt

The anti-mask message was hidden in the Domina patch note, an indie gladiator management game. The latter could not have been clearer, saying frankly that not wearing a mask would allow you to “fuck”.

The famous patchnote

“Next time you go to the supermarket, try showing your face to a woman. Be confident, don’t be afraid of LIES – you might find yourself a girlfriend. Women love confident men “Women don’t like men who hide their faces out of fear. What are you afraid of? Fucking? It’s time to grow up”

The message is not entirely clear, the term lies could either mean that masks do not fully protect against COVID 19, or mean that all or part of what is said around the dangers of the pandemic would be false. The developer did not want to give more details about the message he wanted to convey.

Consequences

Nevertheless, this message did not please either players or Internet users in general, who did not hesitate to write several negative reviews about the game. Domina went from a very positive overall rating to a very negative one, which caused its developer to react on Twitter.

The developer’s tweet

” Domina

Developer: Advocates Courage

the crowd woke: DUH NO! COURAGE IS EVIL AND THERE IS NO CANCEL CULTURE…”

second layer

“If marking ‘take off that fucking mask’ on an indie game’s patchnote gets this much WORLD attention, imagine the attention you WOULD get if you took the mask off.

What are you afraid of ? From her?”

So far Steam hasn’t reacted, just choosing to classify most of the recent reviews as off-topic (after all these were more developer-focused than game-focused). It was however not the first time that this person decided to talk about his opinions in his patchnotes, as with this one-thewhere the fact that people watch too much porn was criticized.

After more than a month of unresolved issues on Lost Ark and promises of better days from Amazon Games, a portion of Smilegate RPG’s MMOARPG players have chosen to speak out more in order to let their frustration show through, claiming have reached its limits.
