Steam bestseller: controversial survival game turns out to be a long-running hit

Many Steam games get off to a really phenomenal start, but then disappear within a few minutes. However, the new survival game Icarus swims against the tide. Although it was released just under 3 weeks ago, it can still be found at the top of the Steam charts today.

Icarus is still in the top sellers on Steam

Icarus was released almost three weeks ago, but the new open-world survival game from the RocketWerkz developer studio was still able to prove itself secured fourth place among the Steam top sellers. (Source: Steam).

At first glance, Icarus almost looks like a modified version of Ark: Survival Evolved with nice graphics. Farming, crafting and exploring the game world are in the foreground. However, Icarus uses a special trick. The time you can spend on the eponymous planet is limited. You will only be sent to the surface for a short period of time to complete faction missions.

After the deadline, you have to return to your space station, where you can use your looted materials to create new equipment or unlock new skills. Should you not make it back in time, your character is lost forever.

The dangerous world of Icarus you can both alone and with up to 7 friends explore. During your stay you can also build houses and equipment that will help you on your mission or offer shelter.

Icarus: The biggest criticisms of the players

The hype surrounding the new survival game was still quite high before the release, but many players seem to have expected significantly more from Icarus – a look at the current Steam reviews reveals that. Just 62 percent of the players rate the new survival game positively.

The biggest criticisms of many gamers: The performance on the PC currently leaves a lot to be desired. They also complain that Icarus still feels like an early access game even though the game is being sold as a full release. But the majority of the players see huge potential in Icarus and hopes that the developers will fix the biggest bugs in the upcoming updates and add more content to the game.
