Steam Deck 2: Valve confirms launch period

Valve is determined to maintain its second place in the hybrid portable console market. After offering a mid-generation model with the Steam Deck Oled, as Nintendo did with the Switch, a new iteration is already making waves. Indeed, a Valve manager has confirmed the arrival of Steam Deck 2 in the coming years.

A Steam Deck 2 expected before 2028

Bloomberg had the opportunity to chat with Lawrence Yang, Steam Deck product designer, after the announcement of the new Oled model. Marketed from €549 in mid-November, this new version is obviously not the last.

In this interview, the manager explains that he took user feedback into account in order to offer a Steam Deck offering a better display and with a larger battery. It is also important to emphasize that the Oled version is now lighter and quieter, with less heating than the current model.

Lawrence Yang reassures players regarding the availability of the Steam Deck Oled, telling Bloomberg that Valve is “convinced that this time, she [la société] will avoid supply constraints that affected the first version of Steam Deck and led to months-long delays for some customers“.

With several million machines sold, and almost guaranteed success with this new generation, Valve therefore has great ambitions for its hybrid console. Lawrence Yang has indeed indicated that his team is already working on Steam Deck 2, which would be above all “a power upgrade“.

We also learn that this console will be available within two to three years. So, we would have to wait until the end of 2025 or even 2027 to have it in our hands.

Lawrence Yang ends by emphasizing that “many people within the company are excited about this product“and that the team around the Steam Deck is”very invested“. This promises a bright future for this range of consoles.
